Strategies for teaching this module
OCR Computing AS and A Level Discussion Board: 2511 - Integrated Information Systems: Strategies for teaching this module
By Tim Ault (Tim) on Tuesday, August 20, 2002 - 12:02 pm:

I found that there was a wide range in the results of the students who did this module in June. The better students did very well (grade A/B, the weaker ones, very badly (D/E). One student who scored an A in module 2509 got an E in 2511.

At d'Overbroeck's I think the reasons were as follows:

1) We spent too long completing projects and not enough time on 2511.
2) I was teaching much of the material for the first time!
3) The exam is a good discriminator at A2 standard, as it should be.

As for strategies for this year :

1) We must aim to finish the projects earlier to allow more time for 2511.
2) We need to collect testing and revision materials for this module.
3) David Cooper's course will help - he tells me the questions are now completed (www.theteacher.info)

I would be interested to know if other teachers found that their students' results have followed a similar pattern.

I would also be interested to hear what strategies other teachers are planning to adopt to improve students' results in this module.

Tim
