OCR Computing AS and A Level Discussion Board: 2510 - Computing Project: Erm, im dead and dno what to do...help?
yep, happens wit me all the time. leave things till last minute. only realised recently how much work i have to do, and i havent even started any of it. mine wont be a real situation, and i havent use access before. what can i choose as a project?? i was thinking something as simple as pizza shop which has records of all its customers and has info on whether their address is within 2 miles radius of the shop in order for a delivery to take place. and also a discount after a certain amount of point have been gained. would this be ok? or what abt stock controls for a shoe store? im kinda stuck here and need to start NOW! :s whilst i hope for replies from u experts, i am now gonna open access and find out exactly what it can do :s any help would be nice cos i really do need it cos i only have 28 days left until i hand it in and i ent started :o elp!
Dear Failure A month is plenty of time to do an A2 project, as long as you go about it in the right way and are prepared to stay in to get it done and use free periods, after school etc. There is no need to panick but you do need to get organised. The first thing to do is to change your name from Failure to 'Success'. The second thing to do is to get yourself a copy of the mark scheme. Ask your teacher or go to the OCR web site and download it. At this relatively late stage, I'd try to find a kind teacher as your user and do a project within school. The most successful made-up projects I've done in school are ones to do with issuing Parking Permits to sixth-formers and teachers for a too-small car park, or a locker tracking system. You need to get the introduction to the problem done. E.g. describe the school, then describe the car parking situation, then describe the problems at the moment in the car park and the current method (or lack of it) of managing car parking spaces. This should not take more than a few hours. When you've done this, discuss with your teacher this project and how you intend to improve things. You will need to weasle in how your user is involved. They could simply be e.g. a member of staff who has a car and has been asked to improve the situation. As long as you can convince your teacher you have a meaningful project that produces something for a user, you should be in business to attack each section in the mark scheme methodically. Remember, there is no magic cure - you just need to put the hours in. Get the above done tomorrow and then post another question. Dave C
many thx for a very quick reply i didnt expect onethat quick actually. i have all the stuff i need the sylabus and other stuff, just a matter of being bothered to do it and i now have started finally. is there any harm in making up the situation? i am not exactly aiming for 120/120, but a respectable mark will do me. in fact, i have started with a pizza business. something along the lines of customer details stored on a database, their address stored to verify whether a home delivery is possible is the address is within the 3 mile radius nxt time they place an order. and also a points system where ponits are gained depending upon how much a customer spends. and when a certain number of points are reached, the customer is entitled to free things! is this ok to do? :s
It sounds like a good project but who is the user of the system you are making? Do you know anyone in the trade who could act as a user? It is important that you have a real user, or at the very least, somebody who knows about the business and could act as a user. If not, you will lose a lot of marks all over the place. Get this sorted out quickly - it isn't something that can be faked easily even if you think you can! The outline you wrote about sounds fine. You need to open the mark scheme and use the headings in it, section by section. It is the best guide to what you have to produce. If you can persuade your teacher to mark your project section by section, this also helps! Good luck!
woo, im back! i have done 8 and a bit sides of my coursework got about 2 weeks left! my system is soooo simple that i think im gonna get no marks for creativity. i made a database with two tables containg about 5 fields each and they have just one relationship! i hope this is alright....
Dear Success Glad to see you are making progress. Stop worrying about how good / bad / simple / complex your database is! You get very few marks for the database you produce. Nearly all the marks come from you providing good evidence of good project management skills. The biggest mistake pupils make is to spend hours doing a database and hardly anytime on the things that count. Ideally, use all the wizards to put you database together, then get the mark scheme open and start looking at what project management evidence is needed in each section. If you do this, you can still get high marks in the project.
yo yo yo, wassup successes, i remain a failure until i get into BHAM UNI full stop! i asked this guy today how many sides he has done for his project. he said 300!, i was like HUH?? and he was actually serious NEWAAAAAYS, i better carry on wit ma 13 sides done so far and i have FINISHED (?) first 2 sections mine gonna be short! neways thx for the reply Dave ;)
hello Mr/Mrs Expert. As you will probably know i also have this computing project to do as part of my a level course. i am planning to construct a spreadsheet that will record pupils marks for different tests in maths ( my mother is the end user and is a maths teacher) and will calculate their percentages and the spreadsheet will find out if the pupil needs to re - sit the exam if he/she did not get the required grade to pass the test. a form or list will then be created highlighting which pupils need to re take the test. does this sound far too simple, and will i score highly? my teacher was saying that i have to use some code in the project (i.e. vb) but i have no idea how to incorporate programming code in my project. please can you give me some guidance - my teacher is too vague. thankyou for your time and patience
hahahahahahahahahaha
