A Level Computing - Microsoft Access
OCR Computing AS and A Level Discussion Board: 2510 - Computing Project: A Level Computing - Microsoft Access
By Sally Jacobs on Tuesday, October 07, 2003 - 05:48 pm:

It has been suggested that I do a holiday booking form in Microsoft Access for my A Level project. Am I able to create a calendar within Access so I can display dates of holiday?? What can I include? What can I do?? Help!!

Thank you

Go to your library and look in some Access books for ideas. Also try your local library and college libraries. Then create some Access databases using FILE-NEW and click on the DATABASES tab and explore. Now buy one or two books on Access projects for A level and read them. Now look through the back posts in this site at the ideas already discussed. Now ask your teacher if you can see last year's projects.

To do well, you must be willing to spend a lot of your time doing the ground work.

The two most important things in your project is to

a) identify a REAL (or realish) problem that has a REAL end user who is willing to help you - an adult with a paper-based existing system is the easiest type of project to do well in.

b) ensure that the database actually does something i.e. uses some parameter queries that are then used to generate reports. Avoid database problems which essentially just store data and let the user look up things.

Manufactured projects like holiday databases and library projects are much much harder to do well in than real ones and should be avoided at all costs.

Good luck.

Hi,

I am using MS-ACCESS 2000 at home and school. I am OK with Tables, Queries, Forms, Reports.

But really struggle with Macros and Modules. Can someone advise me please.

Thanks

Hi,

I use the inbuilt security utility of MS-ACCESS XP to encrypt a database.

Tools ----> Security -----> Encrypt/Decrypt Database
-----------> Encrypt database as ........
but the 'encrypted' database is the same as the original one! What have I done wrong?

Can someone advise me please. Thanks in advance
